Iowa Northern Railway getting more than $2 million for flood recovery

WASHINGTON, D.C. (KWWL) -- The U.S. Department of Transportation announced on Tuesday that the Iowa Northern Railway Company will get more than $2 million for flood damage restoration.

Iowa Northern is getting $2,236,410 from the Federal Railroad Administration for flood damage restoration in Benton, Black Hawk, Bremer, Butler, Cerro Gordo, Floyd, Linn and Worth counties.

Senator Charles Grassley said in a written statement, "This funding is intended to increase the safety and efficiency of these railroads and highways, as well as help provide important economic development opportunities in the surrounding communities."

The money is part of five grants totaling $3,659,763 that the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded to the Iowa Department of Transportation for Iowa railroads and highways.
