UPDATE: Cut fiber line causing problems from Charles City to Illinois

Posted:

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- Mediacom says a farming accident has caused customers from Charles City to Illinois to lose service.

Phyllis Peters, Communications Director for Mediacom, says a farmer's auger caught power lines out in a rural area near Charles City, bringing down power lines, phone lines and Mediacom's fiber line.

Peters says this outage impacts the counties immediately west, north and east of Waterloo and extends east through Dubuque and across the river into the northwest corner of Illinois.

She says the problem does not extend down to Cedar Rapids and Iowa City.

Peters says it could take several hours for the repairs to be made.

In Charles City customers have lost all Mediacom services, including video.

In other areas customers have only lost high-speed Internet.

The problem started between 10:30 and 10:45 Tuesday morning.
