Iowa State Women Basketball team looks to young players

AMES (KWWL)-- It's hard to believe but basketball season is just around the corner. The Iowa State Woman hosted media day Monday afternoon, inside Sukup Basketball Complex.

Head coach Bill Fennelly is entering his 16th year as head coach for the program, coming off a post season berth in the Sweet 16. The young Cyclone team, with just one senior is relying a lot on their sophomores. Among those, Chelsea Poppens out of Aplington Parkersburg High School.

"It really lead us into this year and how we have to step up and be leader since we're returning. And there's a lot of freshman and transfers so it really set us up," Poppens said.

"When you go from freshman year of college to sophomore year of college you're a whole different person. I think your first year in a job to your second year in a job you're totally different," Head Coach Fennelly said.

The Cyclones open up their official season on Saturday, Nov. 13 against Western Illinois.  Game time is 7:00 PM.
