Fast Forward Workshop at UNI

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- More than a hundred aspiring communicators gathered in Cedar Falls Friday.

The University of Northern Iowa Electronic Media Department hosted it's Fast Forward Workshop.  It brings in television and radio professionals to share their experiences with students from area schools and universities.

Presenters included former UNI students like Eric Braley, Michael Rueber, Caitlin Varcoe and John Wiedenheft.  Braley and Rueber started Around the Corner Productions and make the program Panther Sports Talk.  Varcoe is a creative services producer at KAAL.  Wiedenheft is a public television producer/director.  Other presenters included Tim Seelinger, an editor at Mayo Clinic; Julie Kraft and Teresa Hein, with Frank N. Magid Associates; Nicole Agee, a news anchor at KCRG; Polly Carver-Kimm, information officer for the Iowa Department of Public Health; Keith Hindman, co-owner of Metro Studios; and Dan Rouse, creative services manager for On-Media-Precision TV Advertising.

Mark Steines, co-host of Entertainment Tonight, gave the keynote address.  Steines, formerly of KWWL, was college roommates at UNI with now head football coach Mark Farley.  Steines offers an internship in Los Angeles each summer to a student from UNI.

Students attended group sessions learning everything from editing to resume building skills.
