DUBUQUE (KWWL) -- Late Wednesday, the Senate confirmed Dubuque County Sheriff Ken Runde as a U.S. Marshal.

Runde was recommended by U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, in April 2009.  He will serve as U.S. Marshal for the Northern District of Iowa after serving nearly 34 years with the Dubuque Sheriff's Department.

Also confirmed as U.S. Marshal last night, Michael Bladel.  He was appointed in the Southern District of Iowa.

Officials say Runde will be sworn in sometime this month.  The Dubuque Board of Supervisors will select an interim sheriff to serve until the next election.
