Black Hawk County's most wanted strikes again

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- She was one of Black Hawk County's most wanted, but now she's behind bars. Officials say 27-year-old, Amanda Cooley was wanted on a felony warrant for a parole violation.

Shortly before seven last night, police pulled her over on Highway 218 near University Avenue in Cedar Falls. Officers say she sped away and hit a semi. She was originally taken to Allen hospital for injuries, and then taken to the Black Hawk County Jail.

Sheriff Tony Thompson says this most recent arrest shows why Black Hawk County's Most Wanted Website is needed. It shows how dangerous and out of control these criminals can be and it also gets them off the streets fast.

"I think that demonstrates why she was on the top ten or on the most wanted list, because she's already demonstrated she was an escape risk, she's noncompliant with officers, with the law, with the court, with her probation officer, parole officer," said Sheriff Thompson.

While it's only been up and running for a year Sheriff Thompson says this site is an important communication tool between his office and the people of Black Hawk County.

"Unfortunately we haven't caught everybody, but fortunately about 80-percent of everybody we've highlighted we've captured," said Thompson.
