Iowans find widespread fault for bad economy


DES MOINES (AP) -- A Des Moines Register poll shows Iowans spread the blame when it comes to the nation's economic woes.

The Iowa Poll in Wednesday's newspaper finds a majority of Iowans cite Democrats and Republicans in Congress and President Barack Obama, who has returned to Des Moines for a "backyard discussions" with voters.

According to the poll, 51% of Iowans say they think his administration deserves a lot of the blame. 58% blame Democrats in Congress, while 55 percent blame Republicans.

Even more Iowans blame Wall Street, at 79%, and major U.S. corporations, at 74%.

The telephone poll was conducted Sept. 19-22 by Selzer & Co. Inc. of Des Moines of 803 Iowa adults. It had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
