Cedar Rapids woman charged with lying after buying 22 guns

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- A Cedar Rapids woman pleaded guilty Tuesday to making false statements to a federally licensed firearms dealer in federal court.

According to court documents, Debra Meyer, 49, bought 22 firearms from three federally licensed firearms dealers in Cedar Rapids and Marion in 2008 and 2009.

They say each time Meyer bought a gun, she put false information on the forms when she said she was the actual buyer of the firearms and was not an unlawful user of any controlled substance.

Officials say Meyer was a crack user and was buying the firearms for others who were selecting the firearms and paying her to buy them or trading her crack cocaine for her buying them.

A sentencing has not been set.

Meyer faces up to 10 years in prison without the possibility of parole, a fine of up to $250,000, a mandatory special assessment of $100, and up to 3 years of supervised release.
