Waterloo felon convicted of having a gun

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- A Waterloo man who was convicted of a drug charge 10 years ago, pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm on Tuesday.

David Wright, 32,  was convicted on January 28, 2000 of felony Possession of Cocaine Base with Intent to Distribute in Black Hawk County.

On April 22, 2010, police were called to a disturbance in Waterloo and saw Wright walk away, reach to his waist, and drop something over a fence. Officers found a loaded 9mm pistol there.

Wright pleaded guilty to Being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition.

A sentencing date has not been set.

Wright faces up to 10 years in prison without the possibility of parole, a fine of up to $250,000, a mandatory special assessment of $100, and three years of supervised release.
