Waverly company making upgrades

WAVERLY (KWWL) -– CUNA Mutual Group is undertaking a multi-million-dollar modernization of its Heritage Way facility in Waverly.  The goal is to create a quality business environment for its 450-plus employees, while boosting the local economy by adding work for local construction contractors.  The $12 million-to-$14 million project is being done in several phases over a four-to-five-year period.

"Our Heritage Way building was built in the mid-1970s and while it has been well maintained and doesn't show its age, the heating, cooling, electrical and technology infrastructures need updating," said Reid Koenig, CUNA Mutual vice president of customer operations.

The modernization project involves reconfiguring offices, refurbishing workstations and installing new ceiling tiles, ductwork, HVAC equipment, carpeting and windows.  The first phase, which has been completed, included the cafeteria and the fitness room.  The second phase, that's now under way, affects the lobby.  It's being relocated to the south employee entrance.  The new lobby entrance is scheduled to open Monday, Oct. 4.

The general contractor is Cedar Rapids-based Miron Construction Co., Inc., and the majority of subcontractors are from the Waverly and surrounding areas, he added.

"CUNA Mutual continues to evolve and grow. Although the overall economy remains uncertain at best, CUNA Mutual is doing all it can to strengthen the company and support the policyholders we serve during these difficult economic times. The company's business results are solid, and we expect to achieve our revenue and expense goals for 2010," Koenig said.
