Daniels named Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Week

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- After an impressive showing against Ball State, Hawkeye defensive tackle, Mike Daniels, has been named co-defensive player of the week.

Daniels recorded four tackles for loss, including a seven-yard sack, to help Iowa shutout Ball State, 45-0 at Kinnick Stadium on Saturday.

Daniels had six tackles on the day, and his four tackles for loss pushed the offense back 20 yards.

The defense had two takeaways on the day and only allowed the Cardinals to pass for 56 yards, the second-fewest yards allowed through the air under Kirk Ferentz.

This is Daniels' first Player of the Week honor in his career.  The last Hawkeye to be named Defensive Player of the Week was linebacker Troy Johnson on November 22, 2009.

Greg Jones, linebacker from Michigan State is the other Co-Defensive Player of the Week after getting two interceptions and a forced fumble in a 45-7 win over Northern Colorado.

The #17 Hawkeyes host #22 Penn State in a night game at Kinnick Stadium on Saturday for homecoming.  Kick-off is scheduled for 7:06 pm.
