Carter Lake Closing

CARTER LAKE (KWWL)-- Carter Lake in western Iowa is closed starting today to allow for a planned fish kill.

The Oxbow Lake on the Iowa-Nebraska border has a high concentration of non-game fish.

Officials with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission say the carp and bullhead have been hurting water quality. They will put a fish-killing substance called rotenone into the water.

Boat ramps in Omaha and Carter Lake will be closed through Friday. The lake will be restocked with largemouth bass, channel catfish, and bluegill.
