West Delaware still in the hunt for district title

MANCHESTER (KWWL) -- Charles City and West Delaware have stormed back in the district race with three straight wins after losing their season openers.

West Delaware has been especially impressive in district play beating Waukon and Crestwood by a combined score of 103 to 14.

Homecoming week for the Hawks and royalty took center stage before kickoff. West Delaware's defense took over the spotlight going to work. The Comets first offensive series and Quarterback Jacob Heugel gets lit up by #53 Cole Stephen. The ball pops out and the Hawks jump on it. Myles Finn recovers it.

The very next play Quarterback Jordan Hoffman hands off to #4 Trey Mactaggart. He unloads a 28-yard pass to the quarterback. Hoffman would then stroll in for the touchdown. The Hawks go up 6 to zero after a missed extra point.

Less then a minute later the Hawks would strike again with Hoffman airing it out and hooking up with #24 Brandon Doemeyer. He would scamper 36-yards to the Comet 24-yard line, which would set up this 32-yard field goal making the score 9 to zero in the first quarter.

In the second, a blocked punt would lead to another score for the Hawks. Hoffman would roll out to his left and find #1 Tyler Morrison, with some great concentration, bobbling the ball in the corner of the end zone, but keeping his hands and eyes on the ball for a 13-yard strike, making the score 15 to zero. It would be 15 to 7 at the half.

28 to 7 would be the final score, keeping the West Delaware Hawks in the hunt for the District Title.
