Eastern Iowans participate in Active Aging Week programs

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- Country line dancing by a group of dancers age 70+ was one of several programs celebrating lifelong learning during Active Aging Week September 20-26 at Meth-Wick Community in Cedar Rapids.

According to the Iowa Department on Aging, there are 444,554 Iowa residents age 65 and older. By 2030, that age group will grow to over 663,000 Iowans and 71.5 million Americans. The large aging population has led to increased emphasis on physical and mental activity as essential elements in the aging process.

Meth-Wick's fitness specialist leads exercise classes five days a week year-round as part of Meth-Wick's "whole person" Wellness and Recreation program.

Friday, Country Steppers senior line dancers provided instruction and a performance.
