Cell phone use on the rise

DES MOINES (KWWL) -- Cell phone use in Iowa appears to be on the rise, while the number of traditional land-line telephones has dropped.

The Iowa Utilities Board says the number of wireless telephone connections in the state grew by 12% between 2007 and 2009.

The Board said the switch was responsible for a 9% decline in the number of land based lines. However, the land-line numbers were helped by the growth of cable telephone connections.

The Board said wireless carriers are serving 98% of Iowa.
