UPDATE: Iowa City announces City Manager finalists

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- The City of Iowa City has released the names of the three finalists for the open City Manager position.

Steven S. Crowell is currently the City Manager of North Port, Florida and has held that position since 2005.  From 1994 to 2005 he was the City Manager of Greenwood Village, Colorado.  Prior to becoming a City Manager, Crowell was the City Administrator in Commerce City, Colorado, La Vista, Nebraska and David City, Nebraska.

Paul Eckert has been the City Manager of Sioux City since 2002.  He started working for Sioux City in 1997 when he became the Assistant City Manager.  Prior to working for the City of Sioux City he was an adjunct professor at Bellevue University in Bellevue, Nebraska.

Thomas Markus is currently the City Manager of Birmingham, Michigan.  Previous experience includes being the City Manager of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota and Village Manager of Wheeling, Illinois.

The fourth candidate, David Dorgan, was interviewed, but was not selected as a finalist.

Mayor Matt Hayek said "We met with four excellent candidates today. Each was impressive and brought strong credentials to the table. On Tuesday three of the candidates will meet with the public and other stakeholders, and then interview a second time with the Council. On Wednesday the Council will meet in executive session to begin its deliberations."

Residents can meet the three finalists at a meet and greet event from 7:30 - 9:00 AM on Tuesday in Room A of the Public Library. 

Residents are asked to give input to the City Council on the finalists.  Comment forms will be available at the Meet & Greet event on Tuesday morning or Monday after 5:00 PM in the City Hall lobby or on the City website www.icgov.org/managersearch.   Comments may be dropped off in the comment box in the City Hall lobby or submitted electronically to the City website.

All comments must be received by 4:30 PM on Tuesday, September 28.  Comments received will be provided to the City Council and become public record.
