Salvation Army will offer meals on weekends

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- The Salvation Army in Cedar Rapids is launching a new Saturday mobile feeding initiative in response to an identified need for weekend food support.

The Army is utilizing its mobile kitchen unit known as a canteen to deliver food and outreach services.  A breakfast meal and a "to go" sack lunch is being offered.

Saturday, September 25th stops include:

Willis Dady Emergency Shelter, 1247 4th Avenue SE – 8:00 – 8:20 am

Mission of Hope Shelter House, 211 Park Court SE – 8:25- 8:45

Cedar House Shelter, 603 2ndStreet SW – 8:55- 9:15

The Salvation Army, 1000 C Avenue NW – 9:25- 9:50 am

The key purpose of this outreach effort is to provide access to food on days and at times that other community meal programs and pantries are limited or not available.

Canteen and outreach operations like this new program will also offer real world experience to The Army's Emergency Disaster Services volunteers. They will be better-prepared when called to respond to fires, natural disasters and other emergency situations. Keeping volunteers consistently engaged will also ensure that The Army has a troop of experienced people ready at all times.
