Coralville man charged after series of attacks


CORALVILLE (KWWL) -- A Coralville man faces numerous charges after a series of attacks on two different nights.

Police say Benjamin Arthur Scott Washington, 26, first got into a fight with his girlfriend starting on Friday and going into the early morning hours of Saturday.  Police say Washington caused injuries all over her body and then cornered her in the kitchen with a steak knife and threatened to stab her.  Police say that after she pleaded for her life, Washington put down the knife and left.

He is charged with Domestic Abuse/Assault without Intent Causing Injury and Going Armed with Intent.

Then on Wednesday, police say Washington was at a party drinking.  The complaint says that Washington was kicked out and then broke back into the apartment by breaking through a window.

Police say once back inside, Washington then assaulted a female by hitting her in the head and neck several times causing her to have a black eye, swelling on her cheek and swelling in her throat.

Police say that a female friend tried to help the victim, but Washington hit her one or two times in the face.  Police say she didn't suffer any injuries.

Police reports also say Washington assaulted a person that tried to restrain Washington by putting him in a bear hug.  According to police, Washington bit that person's finger while being restrained.

Police say that Washington was being held down by a man that lived in the apartment.

Washington is charged with two counts of Assault Causing Bodily Injury, one count of Assault, one count of Third Degree Burglary and one count of Public Intoxication.
