Flags at half-staff for Iowan killed in helicopter crash

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (KWWL) - Flags are being flown at half-staff in Muscatine after 39 year-old Maj. Robert F. Baldwin was killed in the worst coalition helicopter crash in Afghanistan in four years.

The military says five members of the 101st Airborne Division, including Baldwin, and four members of the Navy were killed on Tuesday in the crash.

A spokesman for Fort Campbell in Kentucky says the five members of the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade deployed in March.

Baldwin joined the Army in 1994 and had received several awards including the Bronze Star Medal.

The cause of the crash was not immediately clear. NATO says there were no reports of enemy fire at the time, but the Taliban have claimed that insurgents shot down the helicopter.
