DNR: Floyd County dam in danger of failing

Posted:

FLOYD COUNTY (KWWL) -- A Floyd County dam is in danger of failing, according to a recent report from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

Officials say it needs to be removed or repaired as soon as possible. The dam is located on the Shell Rock River near Rockford.

In August, the National Weather Service warned of a potential break after a bout of heavy rains and rising river waters.

The County Conservation Director says they are reviewing the DNR's recent report to decide the next step.

The dam was built in 1872.
