Move over candy bars, carrots move into vending machines

Posted:

NEW YORK (KWWL) -- Students at a school in upstate New York might be asking, "What's up doc?" when they see a new offering in a campus vending machine.

Baby carrots are now being offered in a high school vending machine.

The carrots come in a chip-size three ounce bag and sell for 50 cents, about 75 cents cheaper than their orange junk food competition.

The school is one of two pilot locations participating in a two month long national campaign to sell the bright orange veggies.

The "Eat 'em like junk food" effort includes junk food-style packaging and an iPhone video game.

Students purchasing the healthful treats seemed to enjoy the new choice and the price.
