Hampton out for the season, again

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- Hawkeye head football coach, Kirk Ferentz, says that running back Jewel Hampton is out for the rest of the season.

Hampton, a redshirt sophomore, hurt his left knee in the second half of Saturday's 34-27 loss at Arizona.

Ferentz says Hampton will have knee surgery and is doubtful that he'll be able to return.

This is the second year in a row that Hampton has seen his season end early.  He missed all of last season after tearing the ACL in his right knee.

Hampton had been splitting carries with starter Adam Robinson this season.  He racked up 114 yards on 27 carries in two games this year.

The 18th-ranked Hawkeyes host Ball State on Saturday.

Ferentz also says that backup linebacker Bruce Davis will likely miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.  He was also injured in Saturday's loss to Arizona.
