Libertarian candidate for governor plans trip to Cedar Valley

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- Libertarian Eric Cooper says he will be making his only campaign visit to Cedar Falls and Waterloo Saturday, Sept. 25.  Cooper is in the race for Iowa Governor, along with running mate Nick Weltha.

Cooper will speak and answer questions at the Cedar Falls Public Library from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  He plans to be at Jameson's Public House in Waterloo at 4:00 p.m.

"We think that our candidacy will provide an alternative to the major parties for Iowa citizens who want a smaller government," Cooper said. "We believe we will attract support from fiscally responsible Democrats, socially liberal Republicans, and Independents who are tired of the ever expanding size of the Iowa government."

"Our goal in this election is to get at least 2% of the vote which would give the Libertarian Party major party status under Iowa law. We also hope to draw enough support away from the major parties to encourage them to poach our issues in order to steal our voters," said Cooper.
