Cedar Rapids leaf collection starts October 4th

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- Cedar Rapids will begin its annual leaf collection program on Monday, October 4th.

The city plans to collect leaves on residents normal garbage day unless they get behind due to weather or volume of leaves.  In the case of delays, they will work to collect the leaves on the next day.

Here are some helpful reminders about the Leaf Vacuum Collection Program:

- Rake leaves into long piles on the grass or parking area next to the street.
- Leaves must be kept out of the street.
- The vacuum truck will not collect leaves from alleys.
- Place brush and branches in the YARDY cart for collection.
- Please do not park cars in front of leaf piles; the truck will not be able to collect the leaves.
- Keep children and pets away from the vacuum truck, for their safety.
- Plan accordingly. If you are concerned about the leaves blowing or damaging your grass, try to rake the leaves the day before your garbage collection day to minimize the amount of time the leaves remain in the pile.

The trucks will run through December 10th, depending on the weather.
