Dozens wait hours for free wings

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- The parking lot at the new Buffalo Wild Wings looked like a college football tailgating party on Monday morning, and many in the crowd showed up hours before the grand opening.

"We got here after the Hawkeye's lost at about four in the morning," said Dan Huntley, a University of Northern Iowa student.

"I have been here since about 9:00. We got here and pretty much my breakfast has been blazing buffalo wings and Red Bull," said UNI student Alex Kish.

The official ribbon cutting for the new Buffalo Wild Wings store on University Avenue in Cedar Falls was at 10 a.m. on Monday morning. And while the crowd gathered outside was excited about the new restaurant, they were particularly excited about the chance for free wings.

The first 100 customers at the new location received free wings for a year.

"Each 100 people will get their own book. It will be a certificate, 52 certificates good for 6 free wings every week for a whole year," said Dean Watts, Buffalo Wild Wings Assistant General Manager.

Some UNI students found time to do homework while they were waiting for free buffalo wings.

"I wrote 2 papers and did a test online while we were here," Huntley said.

While other UNI students spent the night thinking of excuses to give to their professors.

"You don't have the WIFI and I'm just going to tell my professors I was just eating buffalo wings and drinking Red Bull all night so I think that will be a good enough excuse," Kish said.
