Bellevue parade victims fundraiser

BELLEVUE (KWWL) -- The city held a fundraiser Saturday evening for the Bellevue Parade Victims Fund.

The event included silent and live auctions, games and live music.

All proceeds will add to the more than $250,000 raised since the Fourth of July, when two horses ran wild through the parade route, killing one woman and injuring more than 20 other people.

Event organizer Jennifer Dema said checks have already gone out to some victims' families.

"Surprisingly, one check came back and said, 'My insurance covered everything. Someone else needs this,'" Dema said. "I mean, it gives you chills to even think about that somebody actually - you know, you're getting free money, so to speak, but, you know, that's what this town is all about. That's what small town's all about."

Bellevue firefighters walked around with buckets for donations.
