"Mayor's Fun Run" challenges Waterloo 4th graders

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- Every fourth grader in Waterloo wasn't in class Thursday morning.  That's because all of the city's 900 fourth grade students were running through downtown as part of the 12th annual "Mayor's Fun Run."

This was Mayor Buck Clark's first "Fun Run" since taking office.  He hopes that all the students keep on their feet long after today's race.

"Obviously what we're trying to accomplish today is just to instill the importance of physical activity in these kid's lives.  And hopefully we can get, I don't know, three or four kids to really say 'Ah this is kind of cool,' you know, that's what it's about," Mayor Clark said.

After crossing the finish line, students continued their school day with a healthy lunch and an afternoon full of recreational activities.
