Former Hawk Sanders may miss rest of NFL season

INDIANAPOLIS (KWWL) -- The Indianapolis Colts say safety Bob Sanders will meet with Dr. James Andrews on Wednesday to get a second opinion on the elbow injury he obtained in Houston.

Sanders, who was an All American at Iowa, was the NFL's 2007 defensive player of the year.

He was injured on the Texans' first offensive series on Sunday. Antoine Bethea deflected a pass into Sanders' facemask, and Sanders left his feet and landed awkwardly.

The Colts have said Sanders hurt the elbow, but they have not given details on the severity of the injury. Sanders ran at practice on Monday and was scheduled to undergo an MRI exam.

Sanders missed all but two games last season with knee and biceps injuries and all but six games in 2008 with other injuries. He's now played in 48 career games and missed 49.
