WATER LOO (KWWL) - A majority of women begin breastfeeding -- but many stop within six months.
A new report from the Centers for Disease Control finds 75-percent of babies born in 2007 were nursed as newborns. The percentage of babies still breastfeeding at 6-months-old was 43-percent.
Just under a quarter were still nursing at one year of age. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months.
According to the CDC, breast-fed babies are less likely to become overweight than babies exclusively bottle-fed.
