"Robotripping" a growing health concern among teens

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- Should over-the-counter cough and cold medicines like Robitussin be put behind the counter to curb drug abuse?

On Tuesday, an advisory committee will consider such restrictions on Robitussin and more than 100 other O-T-C medicines that contain an ingredient called "DXM."

"Robotripping" refers to downing an entire bottle of Robitussin or one of the DXM medications to get high.

Experts say robotripping is a growing trend, mostly among teens, who think the practice is safe because of how readily available the medications are.
