CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- Dubuque Hempstead made the trek down Highway 151 to take on #5 Xavier on a night in which Mother Nature couldn't decide if she wanted it to rain or not.
After a scoreless first quarter, the teams traded turnovers in the second quarter.
The Saints Andy Didio completes the pass to Nathan Even, but even drops the rock and the Mustangs recover.
On the very next play, Hempstead's Cody Leach drops back to pass and completes it to Xavier's Jordan Weber. A penalty on the return would put Xavier on their own 22 yard line.
The Saints then march methodically down the field and cap it off with a 27 yard touchdown pass from Didio to Even. The extra point makes it 7 - 0 Saints.
On the defensive side of the ball, Xavier's Tyler Wright makes a big statement by getting in the backfield just as Dubuque's Danny Morales gets the ball, stopping him for a loss.
After another drive, Xavier caps off the first half with a 39 yard field goal by Chad Gilmer. 10 - 0 Saints at half.
Xavier would go on to win this one easily, 41 - 0 over Dubuque Hempstead. The win puts Xavier at 3-0, while Hempstead drops to 1-2 on the year.
Next week, the Saints travel to Iowa City to take on the Little Hawks of City High, while Hempstead will host Waterloo East.
