Teachers of Medal of Honor recipient talk about his integrity

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- Salvatore Giunta enlisted in the army in November of 2003, but a few months earlier, he graduated from Cedar Rapids Kennedy High School.

Former teachers and coaches described him as a boy who had a lot of integrity.  They say he always stood up for the underdog, and truly was a team player.  These teachers only hope they can pass on his heroic story.

"I think his stories are something we need to be sure to tell and make sure we do a better job of telling. To say, hey, this is a Kennedy grad we're talking about. Getting the Medal of Honor and they don't happen very often. So, I think we've got to do a good job of sharing his story and if we can get him back and talk to the crew I think we need to," Kennedy athletic's director Aaron Stecker said.

President Barack Obama announced Friday SSG Giunta will be receiving the living Medal of Honor for actions above and beyond the call of duty while serving in Afghanistan in 2007.
