Shock tactics help smokers quit

AUSTRALIA (KWWL) -- Doctors in Australia say they hope shock tactics will help smokers quit. They are doing it by forcing smokers to confront themselves.

Cardiologists at Sydney's North Shore Heart Research Foundation have decided to try scaring patients in hopes they will stop smoking before cardiac problems began.

They create a personalized video with the patient in it that shows the impact of smoking, this includes the smoker leaving his family behind.

A pilot study found that more than half of the smokers quit a week after watching the video and stayed off cigarettes for a year.
