Investing in stocks declining for younger age groups

Posted:

WASHINGTON, D.C. (KWWL) -- A new study by Merrill Lynch shows those in the 18 to 34 age group are moving away from stocks as an investment.

One reason economists give could be the employment rate, which is at 41 percent in full time jobs, down from 50 percent in 2006.

Investment firms have taken notice, and are changing their products to reduce the percentage of stocks offered in portfolios.

At the same time, young clients are holding onto more cash, and firms are offering savings accounts at higher interest rates.
