Falling Gracefully: Program to reduce injuries

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- More than a third of U.S. adults over the age of 65 fall each year.

It's the leading cause of deaths from injury in that age group, and accounts for nearly two-million emergency room visits each year.

Nearly 100 people in the Cedar Valley got pointers on how to avoid them Tuesday, and even what to do to reduce injury from falls.  Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare hosted "Falling Gracefully" as part of it's living young program.

Orthopedic surgeon Fary Knudson gave advice to the almost 100 people in attendance.

"It's primarily An education on a variety of different topics that can be of value and interest to them," program director Perri Earnest said.

The program is open to the public and is free of charge when you register.  The next program is scheduled for December 7th with the topic of "ring in the new year with holiday cheer." featuring a fitness expert as the main speaker.
