UI police report attempted sexual assault

Posted:

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- The University of Iowa Department of Public Safety is investigating an attempted sexual assault.

A woman told police that after the UI football game on Saturday, around 2 p.m., she crossed the Finkbine Golf Course driving range to return to her parked car. Police say she passed two males, and after she walked past them, she heard footsteps behind her. She says she was pushed down to the ground by one of them, and the men attempted to remove her clothing. She fought off the attacker and was able to run to her car and escape. The victim did not report any physical injuries.

The woman described the suspect as a short, college-age white male, stocky with a dark beard. He was wearing a black fleece jacket, cargo shorts and a white athletic hat. The other male was described as a blonde college-age white male, wearing cargo shorts, and was thinner and taller than the other suspect.

The UI Police recommend people walk in groups as much as possible and report crime immediately by calling 911.

Anyone with information about this crime should call 319-335-5022 or Iowa City CrimeStoppers at 319-358-TIPS.

A gloomy and rainy afternoon didn't stop people from making it out early to the campgrounds Friday. By the afternoon, Scales Pointe Campground and Marina in North Liberty, was full of RVs, tents, and houseboats ready to celebrate the Memorial Day weekend. "We don't worry about the weather. We just put a tent up, put a poncho on, and drink in the rain," Mike Kirk said. Kirk said he's been camping at the same spot for five years now and that it's the best place to be. ...More >>
