Luther drops season opener to St. Olaf 28-21

DECORAH (KWWL) -- The Luther Norse tried to rally from behind late, but fell short falling to St. Olaf 28-21 in the season opener.

The Norse fell behind early in the ball game as the Oles tallied a Jason Obarski field goal taking a 3-0 edge.  Luther clawed back early in the second as Dan Ridenour dove into the zone from a yard out for the Norse' only lead of the game 7-3.

St. Olaf would go into the locker room with a 9-7 edge as running back Leon Clark scored from 2 yards out shortly before the break.  The Oles added another Clark touchdown run while Antonio Jennings hauled in a pair of scoring strikes from Dan Dobson.

Luther capped a couple of long second half drives with scores as Chris Reynolds hit Stephen Thompson from 13 out in the 4th quarter.  Reynold later would find Ryan Monroe for a 2 yard strike with 15 seconds left on the clock as time would soon run out for the Norse.
