Robinson pushes Hawks over EIU 37-7

Posted:

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- Adam Robinson found the end zone 3 times as the 9th ranked Hawkeyes rolled to a 37-7 victory over Eastern Illinois in their season opener.  Robinson gained 109 yards on the ground, leading the Iowa attack on Saturday.

Iowa drove the ball well early on scoring on their first 2 drives.  Robinson punched the ball in from 2 and 4 yards out for a 14-0 lead.  Paki O'Meara added to the scoring, blocking an Eastern Illinois punt, scooping it up, and returning it for the 21-0 lead.

Eastern responded with a score of their own as Brandon Large and Von Wise hooked up on an 11 yard scoring strike, but later shot themselves in the foot throwing a lateral pass out the back of the end zone for a safety.

Iowa added 2 more scores on a 6 yard Robinson run and a 1 yard strike from Ricky Stanzi to Brett Morse for the final margin.

Iowa did get a brief scare in the second quarter as Stanzi caught a cleat in the turf going down awkwardly.  He would leave the field, but return one series later.
