Capsized boat in Volga Lake

WATERLOO (KWWL) - A boat capsized on the Volga Lake in the State Volga Park north of Fayette.

It was reported to the Fayette County Sheriff's Office Friday afternoon.

Fayette County Sheriff's Deputies and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Park Rangers responded to the scene.

Upon further investigation it was determined that 22-year-old Troy Miller of rural Oelwein was driving a 16' flat bottom fishing boat on the lake approx. 200' from shore when a mixture of high waves and strong wind caused the boat to flip upside down.

It threw Miller and his passenger, 24-year-old Joshua of Westgate, in the water.

The two men then clung to the boat until the high wind pushed them to shore.

No injuries were reported.

The accident is being investigated.

The two men were reportedly fishing on the lake and neither one was wearing a life jacket, though they did have them on board.
