Hayden Fry's Biggest Coaching Contribution

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- The second annual FRYFest is set for Friday, September 3. Hayden Fry says he'll be there.

When Hayden Fry took over the Iowa football program in the 1979 season, Hawkeye fans had suffered through 17 straight years of losing seasons. That would only continue for two more years, as Hayden and the Hawks turned it all around with a 1981 Big 10 Championship and a trip to the Rose Bowl.

Hayden Fry has won more football games than any other Hawkeye Head football coach. While at Iowa, Hayden won 143 games Overall, Hayden has 232 career wins as a college head coach. Hayden got his 143 Iowa victories over a 20-year period.

Fry came to Iowa after turning around losing programs at Southern Methodist and North Texas State. Hayden says it's what he did while at Southern Methodist which as had the most significant impact on college football in America.
