2nd pipe bomb found in a week in Grant County

LANCASTER, WI. (KWWL) -- For the second time in a week, Grant County Sheriff's Deputies are investigating a pipe bomb found in a mailbox.

Deputies were called to 4018 CTH O in Harrison Township at around 8:20 Wednesday morning for a report of Criminal Damage to a Mailbox.

When the deputy arrived, he found the mailbox in several pieces and also found the remnants of a pipe bomb a short distance away.

The believe the pipe bomb was placed in the mailbox between 8:30 Tuesday night and 7:40 Wednesday morning.

This is the second such incident in a week.  

John Mirth reported to the sheriff's department that someone placed a pipe bomb in his Shopping News box in the early morning hours of August 25th.

A small piece of PVC pipe with a cap on it was found near the box. Sheriff's deputies say it had been detonated.

Mirth told deputies that he and his son heard a loud bang at around 1:20 am that morning and then heard a car leave the area.

If you have any information regarding either incident, you are asked to call the Grant County Sheriff's Department.

Residents are reminded that if you find a suspicious package or object in your mailbox, don't touch it and call police right away.
