Union comes up big in Decorah

DECORAH (KWWL) -- Wes Burnside and the Union Knights were in Viking country taking on Decorah for the season opener. Decorah had it rolling early as they drove the length of the field and Martin Stalberger capped off the drive with a 1 yard QB sneak.

On the Viking second possession Stalberger kept the ball on an option play and took it 67 yards for the touchdown to give the Vikings a 13-0 lead.

Union responded after a blocked punt. Wes Burnside was able to run it in from 4 yards out to get the Knights on the board 13-7.

Then just before the half, after Hunter Zempel recovered a Viking fumble which lead to Trev Hadachek buying time in the pocket, which he did all night and finding Reid Monroe in the end zone to give the Knights the lead just before the half and they took control as they went onto win 35-20.
