Falcons win season opener against Humboldt

PARKERSBURG (KWWL)-- A very special night for Aplington-Parkersburg as the Falcons played their first game under former A-P star Alex Pollock.

The new Falcon head coach was an All-Stater for the late Ed Thomas during A-P's State Championship team of 2001 and on Friday night the Falcons hosted a Humboldt team coached by Ed Thomas's brother Greg Thomas.

Alex Pollock would lead his team onto the field for the first at the beginning of the game and his Falcons would play their hearts out for their new coach.

After three and out the Falcon's special teams would make it look easy. Jason Grill would take the ball at mid-field and bust out 45 yards for the score. A-P would hit the extra point and go up by seven.

Humboldt Head Coach Greg Thomas would take to the air at the end of the first quarter. Quarterback Andrew Swan would look deep and he would find receiver Charlie Friedle in the corner of the end zone

At the end of the first quarter it was tied seven all.

In the second quarter A-P would stay on the ground. Running back Curry Hoff would take the hand-off and rumbles in from five yards out. The Falcons would miss the extra point but went up 13 to seven.

The Wildcats would look to tie things up before half with a bomb from Swam, but Luke Dunscombe would change those plans quickly by picking off the pass as time ran out.

The Falcons would go into half time up 13 to seven and they would play four complete quarters. The Falcons would win 34 to seven.
