Police officers never truly off-duty

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- An arrest made by Cedar Rapids Police proves that police officers are never truly off-duty.

An off-duty officer was driving in the 1900 block of Mt. Vernon Road SE on Tuesday when he saw a man who he knew had a warrant out for his arrest for a parole violation.

The off duty officer called Cedar Rapids Police Dispatch and asked for on duty officers to assist in the arrest.

When they arrived, officers went into the store and found Tony Westmoreland, 30.

After a short struggle, Westmoreland was eventually handcuffed and taken to the Linn County Jail.

In addition to the warrant for Parole Violation he faces an additional charge of Interference with Official Acts.
