Cedar Rapids having one time pet adoption special

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) --  Because of a cat and dog explosion, the Cedar Rapids Animal Care and Control Center will be holding a one-time pet adoption special.

Manager Diane Weber says, "For every pet we adopt out or send to rescue, or every pet that is reclaimed by its owner, 5 more come in the door."

Their temporary shelter, which is set-up to hold 38 dogs and as many as 120 cats/kittens, is currently holding 45 dogs and more than a 175 cats/kittens.

So for the first time ever, they will hold a one-time adoption special called "Study Buddy Twenties".  The name reflects the back to school time of year and the special adoption price of $25.

The "Study Buddy Twenties" adoptions will be limited to this Saturday during extended hours, from 12-5 pm.  Only pets already altered and waiting for adoption will be available at this special rate.

The special adoption fee will include:

- Spay/neuter
- Preliminary vaccinations
- Microchip implant
- Flea/tick treatment
- De-worming
