Free electronic recycling for Linn County residents starts Sept. 1

Posted:

LINN COUNTY (KWWL) -- Starting on September 1, Linn County residents will be able to recycle electronics for free at Cedar Rapids/Linn County Solid Waste Agency locations.

The free recycling of electronics actually coincides with another change that takes effect on September 1.  Starting then, TV's and computer monitors can no longer be disposed of at the landfill.  Residents will have a grace period until January 1, 2011, but after that, a $35 fee will be charged to those that violate the policy.

TV's and monitors should instead be left at Agency drop-offs which will be located at 1954 County Home Road, Marion and 2250 A Street SW, Cedar Rapids. ALL electronics are taken for FREE at both locations.

For a complete list of all your electronics recycling options, visit www.SolidWasteAgency.org and click on the "Recycling Companion" link.

Landfill tipping fees will underwrite the costs to recycle electronics because of the importance of keeping them out of the landfill.
