300+ take Honor Flight from Des Moines

DES MOINES (KWWL) -- Another group of Iowa World War II veterans flew to Washington this week to see the WWII memorial in the nation's capitol.

The veterans fly for free as part of the Honor Flight program.  The most recent trip, on August 17, was sponsored by Casey's and Hy-Vee.

Veterans leaving from Des Moines Tuesday ranged in age from 84 to 100.

Most did not know each other when the trip started, but by the end of the day, many had made memories with each other to last the rest of their lives.

The last Honor Flight from Central Iowa is August 19th.
