UPDATE: Details released on Highway 30 head-on crash
VINTON (KWWL) -- The Benton County Sheriff's Office has released details on the crash that closed Highway 30 for nearly two hours on Wednesday morning.
Deputies say that Kevin Landis, 18, of Cedar Rapids, was westbound on Highway 30 when an eastbound van driven by Ashley Graves, 22, of Alburnett, crossed the center line and hit Landis' car head-on.
The accident happened at about 9:20 am just east of 21st Avenue.
Both drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles.
Landis and his passenger, Hilary Erickson, 18, of Cedar Rapids, were both taken to the hospital along with Graves, her two children ages seven and a half months and three years-old and her two year-old niece.
All six victims were taken to hospitals in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City with what appears to be non life threatening injuries.
Deputies credit the use of seat belts and child seats for saving lives and reducing the severity of the injuries.
