Panthers' McKowen lands full time coaching job.

DESMOINES(KWWL)--Brooks McKowen, the all-time Iowa high school career and single-season scoring leader and a three-year starter for the University of Northern Iowa, has been hired as an assistant basketball coach at Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) after serving as a member of the UNI staff for the past three seasons.

McKowen played prep basketball at Wapsie Valley High School near Fairbank and finished his career with 2,831 points. As a senior, he set the single-season scoring record with 1,002 points.

McKowen was named Iowa's "Mr. Basketball" by the Iowa Newspaper Association as a high school senior. He averaged 35.8 points and 11.2 rebounds during his final prep season and made 102 of 304 three-pointers that year. He was named captain of the Class 2A all-tournament team after leading the Warriors to a second-place finish in the state tournament and was a three-time first team all-state selection.
