WATERLOO (KWWL) -- Hawkeye Valley Area Agency on Aging is offering A Matter of Balance, a workshop designed to help reduce the fear of falling and increase the activity levels of older adults who have concerns about falling.
During 8 two-hour sessions, participants learn to:
· View falls and fear of falling as controllable
· Set realistic goals for increasing activity
· Change their environment to reduce fall risk factors
· Promote exercise to increase strength and balance
Classes will be held in Conference Room 1 at the Northeast Iowa Family Practice Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. starting Sept. 7. The Northeast Iowa Family Practice Center is located at 2055 Kimball Avenue in Waterloo.
Preregistration is required by calling Jane Shea at 319-272-2086. The workshop fee is $15 per participant which includes a detailed training manual and all class supplies. Scholarships are available to persons 60 year of age and older who express financial need.
